What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is a state-of-the-art orthodontic treatment system that gradually aligns your teeth without using brackets, wires, or rubber bands. Instead, it utilizes tailor-made mouthpieces made from SmartTrack®.

SmartTrack is an incredibly tough thermoplastic. It’s also free of allergens, making it safe for people who are pregnant or sensitive to certain materials.

During treatment, you visit San Ramon Dental Excellence every 2-3 weeks. At each appointment, you receive a new set of mouthpieces that steadily straighten your teeth, transforming the aesthetic appearance of your smile.

What is the Invisalign treatment process?

Invisalign treatment begins with an in-office consultation. During your appointment, the team takes a series of photos, as well as digital impressions of your teeth. These are uploaded to a computer program that features special 3-D technology.

This allows the team to create a personalized plan that displays the step-by-step movements of your teeth throughout treatment. After finalizing a custom care plan, the team sends your impressions to a dental laboratory. The laboratory creates your first set of aligners.

About a week later, your return to San Ramon Dental Excellence and try on your first set of aligners. You may feel minor discomfort at each aligner fitting, but this should subside within a day’s time.

How long does orthodontic treatment with Invisalign take?

The length of Invisalign treatment depends on the severity of the issues treated. Usually, though, people achieve their desired results within 6-12 months.

To speed up the process, it’s important to wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day, only removing them to eat or to brush and floss.

Once treatment finishes, you transition to a retainer for about a year, which prevents your teeth alignment from regressing.
